On a black background, a white-dotted text scrolls horizontally like a news ticker. The screen displays, in real time, actual news feeds from international press agencies, but with one alteration: All events are phrased in the future tense.

“Eleven European tourists will be kidnapped”… “NASDAQ will lose 4.3 points today”… “Obama will get 53% of the votes in Arkansas”…

Both an installation and webpage, TIME SLIP is the latest work from French artist and programmer Antoine Schmitt. Says the artist in the synopsis section of the project website:

“For the spectator, it is as if he was projected in the past… and that someone told him the future… Or for someone who would not already know the news, it would be like if an oracle would tell her the future…. TIME SLIP is a visual artwork referring to philosophical questionings on destiny.”
