On January 12 Spain’s Department of Housing and AVS opened “La Vivienda Protegida: Historia de una Necesidad” (”Social Housing: A History of Need”), an exhibition tracing the history of social housing in Spain, from its creation in 1900 to the present day. In colaboration with architect Ariadna Cantis, we’ve designed the exhibition, facing the double challenge of presenting the architectural characteristics of the buildings while showing how the evolution of customs, lifestyles, and Spanish society in general have changed the way this housing has been lived in over last century. … more

Madrid’s Conference Hall, empty until this weekend’s MAD
MAD 009, the fourth and 2009 installment of Madrid’s annual conference on design, is happening this weekend in the Congress Hall of Madrid. Sixteen guest speakers are scheduled to present during the two-day event, including Base’s own audiovisual specialist Jean-Marc Joseph. Our audiovisual team is also responsible for directing the event’s opening credits sequence.
Jean-Marc will discuss, among other things, the interaction between design, text, typography, and motion graphics, and how to work with stock footage—a key subject in these times of budgetary smallness.

We are proud to have been recognized by with five awards from the 38th edition of the Laus Awards for Graphic Design and Visual Communication, in five very different categories.
For our design of the book–catalog for the 2008 Espai Cultural Caja Madrid exhibition on photographer André Kertesz, Base was awarded the Gold. The book presents images and text on pages of different sizes, “hiding” them between sheets of matte black. It’s bound with a rustic, exposed binding. … more
