As Manhattan’s High Line Park grows ever-nearer to opening, a neighboring project is just beginning. Directly beneath the High Line on 10th Avenue between 14th and 15th Streets sits local landmark the Chelsea Carwash. In the heart of the chic Meatpacking District, it’s a location too valuable, apparently, for a mere carwash. The space was sold recently to Real Estate Equities who has a vision to develop the site for retail on street level, and, if all goes according to plan, as a gallery space for auction house Phillips de Pury on the lower level. … more
